Farewell Denise

Lead researcher, Denise Caruso, resigned from her post at the Children’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Children’s Hospital on January 3, 2012, to take up the post of Executive Officer of the Australasian Sarcoma Study Group at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

We at CIKA are sorry to see her go but know that she will bring to her new job the same dedication and passion that she displayed at the RCH. It has been great working with you Denise and we will miss you. We will always be indebted to you for the great research that you have undertaken and we wish you all the best.

Here is Denise’s final letter to CIKA:

Dear Sandra, Ellen and all the members of CIKA,

It is with a bittersweet heart that I am writing to you today to inform you that I have resigned from the Children’s Cancer Centre as of January 3, 2012.  My time here, working with CIKA to improve outcomes for children with solid tumours (and we have done it for a select lucky few!) has been challenging, rewarding and wonderful and this has all been to due to the fantastic people at CIKA.  I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your hard work and dedication to the cause of research for childhood solid tumours.  CIKA’s steadfast and long term commitment to research is insightful and unique.  I have enjoyed working with you closely these last few years and thank you for the support you have given to the lab and the great outcomes that we have been able to achieve together.

My next position will hopefully see us continue to be working together as I take up the post of Executive Officer of the Australasian Sarcoma Study Group at Peter Mac.  This job will encompass adult, paediatric and young adult patients with sarcoma, with the view to improve outcomes for all of them via rigorous clinical trials that are well supported and engagement with community and philanthropic groups.  I am looking forward to the next phase of my career and to furthering the cause of solid tumour research for children.

I can’t express my appreciation enough to all of you at CIKA.  Thank you.

All the best for a successful and healthy 2012 and I hope to be in contact with you soon.

Kind regards,

Denise
