2011 Blue and Orange Ball

Once again the annual Blue and Orange Ball proved that CIKA has a wonderful and generous band of supporters. Held again this year at The Sebel Albert Park, a staggering $107,000 was raised on the night.

Support was focused on fundraising for the Tissue Bank which is to be established formally over the next twelve months.

On arrival, guests were greeted with drinks and nibbles. Music from the award winning Trinity Grammar School Jazz Ensemble put the company in the mood for the evening.

Our wonderful Patron Peter Mitchell, with the help of Channel Seven weather man, David Brown, got the ball rolling with an enthusiastic game of heads and tails.

Well underway in the lobby was the sale of jewellery, surprise boxes for children and adults, and cosmetic bags. The silent auction of over 240 desireable items also provoked great interest and bidding was steady throughout the evening.

The Sebel kitchen provided the usual delicious fare and, between courses, music from Bob Valentine and his band encouraged us onto the dance floor.

Early in the evening Dr Keith Waters, the RCH oncologist who has treated so many of our children, spoke about the great changes in treatment and the improvement in the outcomes over the last thirty years. This followed a powerful speech by Daniel who is in recovery from treatment.

The Grand Auction was overseen by the very entertaining Will Fowles who had everyone on the edge of their seats as he cajoled the participating guests to put their hands up.

Direct donations poured into the Tissue Bank that was set up in the Foyer and the hoopla game with the wine bottles proved a great success.

We thank all of our guests who continue to support this event and the many volunteers who make it happen.
